BETTER TOGETHER

We value doing life together. We need each other!

Together, we learn what it means to love and forgive. We experience grace and mercy together, and share both our sorrows and our joy. Together, we learn to serve, pray, and worship.

Ordinary people following Jesus means that, together we’re placing our “everyday, ordinary lives” before God as an offering as we press on to follow Jesus.

• Our Core values •

We are a Christian people, a holiness people, and a missional people.

As such, we belong to a great Church (big “C”), which encompasses believers in many different local congregations around the world. At the same time, we recognize that local bodies uniquely serve their community according to their particular gifts and experiences. With this in mind, here are the core values which shape how Marysville Nazarene serves in our community:

The Church universal

We are united with all believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and understand this faith to be true to Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience.

We believe that in divine love, God offers everyone forgiveness of sins and restored relationship. As we are reconciled to God, we are to be reconciled to one another, loving each other as we have been loved by God and forgiving each other as we have been forgiven by God.

Our life together is to exemplify the character of Christ as one body of Christ, with one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

A mission of Worship

As we gather together before God through worship in song, relevant messages, prayer, and communion, we know most clearly what is means to be the people of God.

Worship is the highest expression of our love for God. It is God-centered adoration, honoring the One who, in grace and mercy, redeems us. The primary context for worship is the local church, where God’s people gather, not in self-centered experience or for self-glorification, but rather in self-surrender and self-offering.

Holiness

God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ.

We believe the Holy Spirit’s work in us has the the power to transform us day by day into a people of love, spiritual discipline, ethical and moral purity, compassion, and justice.

Empowered & Equipped

We believe that every member is a minister. That everyone can have a place of service and leadership. Being part of a church is not meant to be a passive experience. Instead, we believe everyone has something unique and significant to offer.

Our mission begins in worship, ministers to the world in evangelism and compassion, encourages believers toward Christian maturity through discipleship, and prepares women and men to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church.

Relational Discipleship

We are committed to being disciples of Jesus and to inviting others to become His disciples by providing the means (Sunday School, small groups, etc.) through which believers are encouraged to grow in their faith and in their relationship with each other and with God.

God does not intend for us to walk alone. We all need others to encourage us in our journey of faith. We are to help each other live a holy life through mutual support, Christian fellowship, and loving accountability.

Compassion & Evangelism

We desire to have the heart of Jesus. To love like Jesus. To see and respond to people the way Jesus did. He met physical, relational, systematic, and spiritual needs. We strive to do the same.

We are committed to inviting people to faith, to caring for those in need, to standing against injustice and with the oppressed, to working to protect and preseve the resources of God’s creation, and to including in our fellowship all who will call upon the name of the Lord.
